CHAP continutes bringing the healing power of art to children in crisis and their families at Art Club, our out-of-hospital Saturday art program in the CHAP art studio. CHAP created Art Club (launched with funding form Johnson & Johnson through the Society for the Arts in Healthcare) to address the second phase of healing - when children & families have gone home to heal or to live with medical conditions outside a hospital setting. Art Club supports the healing process by providing opportunities for self-expression, relaxation & laughter. As they discover a new creative community, children learn they can be seen for their artistic rather than for their diagnoses, diseases or disabilities. Art Club also provides art projects for parents (Helping Hands) & caregivers, which fosters development of support networks based on their shared experience of caring for children with healthcare issues.

Art Club projects extend beyond our studio:

• Art Club is also offered on Thursday afternoons in the CHAP studio for post-hospital transplant patients who cannot attend group classes with large numbers of kids for long periods of time after they are out of the hospital.
• Art Club has evolved into Nurses Nite Out, monthly evenings where nurses and caregivers from the hospitals CHAP serves are invited to explore their creativity as an outlet for expressing themselves and their shared experiences as caregivers.
• Art Club serves children, families, nurses and caregivers from Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Shriners Hospital for Children, Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital and Washington School for the Blind.
